ACOUSTICS AND AIR CONDITIONING IN ONE PROJECT

At a glance:
   • location: St. Christoph am Arlberg
   • scope: New seminar rooms and chalets
   • construction period: June 2015 to February 2016

For many decades, the Hospiz Hotel has shaped the image of the small ski resort of St. Christoph. Built in the 14th century as a mountain hut to allow travelers to safely cross the Arlberg, it later developed into a restaurant. After a major fire, it reopened as a hotel at Christmas 1959. In 2015/2016, a major renovation was underway, expanding the offerings of this traditional hotel at approximately 1,800 meters above sea level. Pagitsch GesmbH, a reliable partner of the local hotel industry, played a key role in the redesign.

AN OPTIMAL SOUND EXPERIENCE, INDEPENDENT OF HALL USE

The successful construction company carried out stucco work and drywall construction. Specifically, seminar rooms and chalets were newly constructed, requiring acoustic design panels in various shapes. In addition to its innovative leadership in acoustic and free-form construction, Pagitsch also contributed its expertise in structural room climate control by installing wall heating and ventilated ceilings. Stepped ceilings and fire protection were also part of the major project, which was successfully completed in February 2016.

A particular challenge for both the acoustics and the air conditioning system was the ceiling height in the hall, which was to be used as both a concert hall and a seminar location. However, Pagitsch found a more than practical solution with its acoustic ceilings, creating a feel-good atmosphere that combines a room-filling sound experience with the pleasant comfort of a well-heated or cooled room.

A POPULAR PARTNER FOR THE HOTEL AND GASTRONOMY INDUSTRY

With precise planning and rapid assembly, Pagitsch is a sought-after construction service provider for hotels and restaurants throughout Austria. Among other projects, the Lungau-based flagship company has also overseen projects at the Hotel Krallerhof in Leogang, the Red Bull Hangar 7, and the Steirereck Restaurant in Vienna.

Pagitsch relies in particular on its modular construction technology, which enables rapid implementation even with complex shapes. This is particularly important in the tourism industry, as there is often only a short off-season for projects or businesses remain partially open during construction. The goal is to minimize disruption to the guest experience and to enable it again as quickly as possible.

Pagitsch also demonstrated its flexibility in design at the Hospiz Hotel am Arlberg. While elaborate stucco work is implemented in traditional styles elsewhere, the hotel in St. Christoph was given a modern look. A simple, elegant style is complemented by small, playful elements and a perfect lighting composition. Wood was also incorporated in the right places to further optimize acoustics and climate.
