EXPANSION AND NEW CONSTRUCTION DURING THE CORONA PERIOD PAID OFF

At a glance:
   • location: Drobollach am Faaker See, Carinthia
   • scope: new hotel rooms and wellness area
   • construction period: February to April 2022

From October 2021 to May 2022, the Hotel Karnerhof in Drobollach on Lake Faak was closed. Not because of the pandemic, but due to a major construction project that owners Ursula and Alfred Karner had initiated years earlier and pursued with the motto "Now more than ever!" Their 4-star superior hotel gained an additional spa area, the rooms were renovated, and the entrance area, reception, and hotel restaurant also received a facelift.

The investment has more than paid off since then, because while many other accommodations in the region close in November or March, focusing entirely on the summer season, this flagship hotel on Lake Faak is now operating almost year-round. A great success, too, for Pagitsch GesmbH, which was privileged to support the Karner family with their renovation project.

LARCH AND THERMALLY MODIFIED ASH FLOORING IN THE SPA FLOOR

The Pagitsch team's expertise in timber construction was particularly in demand in the new wellness area. From terraces and a yoga deck to an indoor pool, wood became the dominant natural building material throughout. Specifically, larch and thermally modified ash flooring was installed, which is exceptionally stable and durable. As the name suggests, thermally modified ash achieves this through a heat treatment that makes the wood extremely resistant to rot, weathering, and pests, thus ensuring its longevity. Equally important in combination with water in the indoor pool or wellness area: thermally modified ash absorbs very little moisture.

HOTEL EXTENSION WITH CROSS-LACLED TIMBER

In addition to the new wellness oasis with its spacious relaxation areas, infrared loungers, infinity pool, and sauna complex, Pagitsch was also involved in the expansion of the existing building. Here, cross-laminated timber (CLT) was used, which is particularly well-suited as a load-bearing structural element. More precisely, a product made of spruce wood was used – several layers of lamellae are stacked crosswise on top of each other, glued under high pressure and thus pressed into large-format panels that are extremely robust and load-bearing.

RELIABLE PARTNER IN THE TOURISM INDUSTRY

The Karnerhof remains a striking landmark on the northern shore of Lake Faak. Located in the village of Drobollach, which has been a cadastral community of Villach since 1973, it demonstrates that the right entrepreneurial spirit and forward-looking investments almost inevitably lead to success in tourism. Therefore, continuous investment in infrastructure continues to this day.

While the 2022 renovation was just one of many well-planned construction projects for Ursula Karner, Pagitsch once again proved itself a reliable partner in the tourism industry. Professional and punctual execution is particularly important here – both are hallmarks of this leading Lungau company. Let's discuss your next project and what Pagitsch GesmbH can do for you. We look forward to hearing from you.
