EXTENSION OF THE FIVE-STAR HOTEL IN THE WINTER SPORTS DESTINATION

At a glance:
   • location: Obertauern, Salzburg
   • scope: new hotel building
   • construction period: November 2010

In few other places is the hotel density as high as in Obertauern. As of January 1, 2025, the mountain village has 188 registered inhabitants – compared to more than 60 accommodation establishments with a total of 9,000 guest beds. More than one million overnight stays are registered annually, 95 percent of them in winter.

In short: Only truly exceptional hotels that offer visitors that "certain something" can stand out from the crowd. The Seekarhaus, one of two five-star accommodations in Obertauern, has achieved this – not least thanks to the support of Pagitsch GesmbH during a major renovation in 2010.

A LUXURY HOTEL WITH MANY AMENITIES

This luxury hotel is situated at an altitude of 1,800 meters on the shores of the idyllic Hundsfeldsee lake; the ski slope runs right past the hotel. The family-run establishment boasts approximately 90 rooms and suites. The 1,300-square-meter spa area includes a spacious indoor pool and a heated outdoor pool, a diverse sauna complex, a fitness room, and a range of beauty and massage treatments. The award-winning gourmet cuisine, seminar rooms, an on-site ski rental shop, and the legendary "Beatles Bar" complete the extensive offerings.

However, such a wealth of amenities doesn't appear overnight; it is the result of continuous construction and development. The driving force behind these efforts is the Krings family (also known for the two former snowboard stars Doresia and Heidi Krings), who acquired the property in 1992 and transformed the former miners' accommodation into a stunning new home. As mentioned, one of the biggest projects took place in 2010, when the Seekarhaus was expanded to include 20 new suites, five double rooms, the wellness area and new dining areas (including a lunch restaurant).

NEW FACADE HARMONIZES PERFECTLY WITH EXISTING STRUCTURE THANKS TO WOOD SHINGLES

As part of the expansion project, Pagitsch was tasked with designing the roof structure, including the reclaimed wood cladding, and cladding the facade with wooden shingles, thereby ensuring optimal integration with the existing architecture. As is typical in hotel construction, the timeframe was very tight, as the new area had to open in time for the start of the winter season. However, Pagitsch mastered this challenge with flying colors, thanks to its experience in the tourism sector and the ability to prefabricate components in its own workshop, and was able to complete the project within a month.
