NEW BUILDING WITH FREE-FORM COLUMNS, ACOUSTIC CEILINGS, AND DOME

At a glance:
   • location: Skopje, North Macedonia
   • scope: new concert hall construction including acoustic ceilings and free form column construction
   • construction period: February to May 2017

Within just a few years, the Macedonian Philharmonic has developed into one of the most important cultural venues in the Balkans. Home to the orchestra of the same name, which was founded in 1944, classical music is presented in all its facets. In particular, it offers a platform for contemporary classical composers, demonstrating that this form of music connects past, present, and future.

The artistic focus is also evident in the building's architecture. The concert hall in the North Macedonian capital, Skopje, was built in 2017 and seats approximately 1,000 people. Pagitsch GesmbH played a key role in the successful construction of the new building.

ACOUSTIC CEILINGS AND PANELS FOR AN UNDISCOVERED LISTENING EXPERIENCE

A domed structure with planking and three-dimensional beam cladding gives the building a distinctive look. Branching free-form column cladding as well as chord and beam cladding by Pagitsch lend the building a contemporary and highly aesthetic appearance.

In addition to the characteristic dome, the dimensions of the columns are also impressive. They are up to 18 meters high and have a maximum diameter of 60 meters. The construction thus ensures maximum stability, but also a monumental appearance that underscores the status of the Macedonian Philharmonic as a cultural center of Skopje. Also striking is the contrast between the bright exterior areas of the Macedonian Philharmonic and the concert hall itself, where wood paneling – also created by an Austrian company – dominates.

Even more important for visitors: Free-form acoustic ceilings and rounded acoustic panels with efficient substructures ensure a pristine listening experience in the Macedonian Philharmonic Hall. Pagitsch specializes in professional acoustic solutions, from expert consulting and planning to customized implementation.
