Back in 2015, Pagitsch GesmbH was involved in the renovation of the Steirereck gourmet restaurant in Vienna. Six years later, Heinz and Birgit Reitbauer, together with the architectural firm PPAG, developed a revolutionary concept for the family's second establishment, "Steirereck am Pogusch." While the Lungau-based construction company distinguished itself in drywall construction and was responsible for the imaginative ceiling design at the Viennese Steirereck during their first collaboration with the successful restaurateur couple, the focus of the phased construction in Styria was on the facade.
Although Pagitsch's expertise in acoustic cooling ceilings was once again utilized to ensure a comfortable atmosphere in the redesigned restaurant, the newly constructed greenhouses attracted particular attention. These greenhouses serve both as a growing facility for plants, herbs, and spices for the restaurant's own kitchen and also house ten cabins for overnight guests. Pagitsch clad these mini-rooms with Alucobond panels.
Alucobond composite panels are clad on both sides with aluminum sheets, making them dimensionally stable, weather-resistant, low-maintenance, easy to clean, and durable. These are all advantages that play a particularly important role in construction projects in the tourism sector. They also offer considerable design freedom, which Pagitsch made excellent use of at Steirereck am Pogusch, and provide sound insulation.
Last but not least, aluminum is easily recyclable – Alucobond uses a high proportion of recycled aluminum, and even production waste can be reused. The same applies to the interlocking metal ceilings installed by Pagitsch. Both thus fit perfectly into the sustainable overall concept of Steirereck am Pogusch.
Sustainability is generally an important tourism issue for Heinz and Birgit Reitbauer – all the more so at Steirereck am Pogusch, which lies at an altitude of 1,059 meters on the Upper Styrian Alpine pass and is nestled in an alpine pasture area. Even during construction, the careful use of natural resources was a top priority. Now in operation, the restaurant is energy self-sufficient year-round.
This was initially made possible by a combination of photovoltaics, solar thermal energy, and a wood chip and biomass heating system. The building envelope also plays a role, as it significantly impacts energy consumption. However, the key to Energy2POG, the name of their specially developed energy concept, is an intelligent control system that directs electricity and heat precisely where they are needed.
Preserving natural resources for future generations is also a key priority for Pagitsch GesmbH. We are therefore always pleased to support sustainable projects with our expertise. Is yours one of them? Then contact us to learn more about our services.
